Landscape orientation. Inspired by the various nature trails to hike when you stop and park on Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive in Empire Michigan. Landscape Orientation
Before creating this piece my family and I hiked the footpath that leads through and over huge dunes of sand to overlook Lake Michigan. A view of the Dune Climb and the DH Day Barns in the distance can be seen from the top of the hike.
I can't wait to come back and explore some more! My kids remember it as "that walk in the dessert" and how we almost ran out of water! I remember all the native plants, trees, and little flowers struggling to survive in this unique habitat, the many shades of aqua water looking out over Lake Michigan, and the impressive size of dunes and washouts.
